A fire starting device is the perfect companion to any knife and the perfect addition to your camping/survival kit. I make these fire strikers using rods of high-quality ferrocerium. Ferrocerium is an alloy of rare earth elements, magnesium and iron.
When small shavings are removed from the rod quickly enough, the heat caused by friction is enough to ignite those shavings. The sparks are tiny pieces of burning metal. The white-hot sparks will ignite many different kinds of tinder, my favorite is a waxed cotton ball.
The handle is made of hardwood (or sometimes antler), with a unique shape. The steel striker is made with burnished edges so you can get a really good spark. These are very popular at shows. Custom woods possible, call for details.
These make great gifts! Plus, they are small enough to keep handy in a pocket or truck.
These handmade fire starters are ready for the woods! If you’ve never seen one of these in action, you’re in for some fun, and if you have…well, you know what a great tool these ferro rods are!
A nice selection of antler sections, tips and forks; our choice.
